Still time to sign up for the SHINE team!
Showing off one of our volunteer t-shirts for the men.
Hiya girls!
Many of you have already heard about the hundreds of lives changed and hearts transformed at last year’s SHINE event. It was incredible to see so many women and girls renew their joy, discover their purpose or surrender their lives to Jesus!
The story you may not have heard about takes place behind-the-scenes – nearly 200 volunteers lovingly assembled SHINE bags, extended welcoming smiles from the parking lot to the front doors, picked up trash, cared for crying babies, and yes, even cleaned toilets to ensure the SHINE guests would have an incredible experience. This was the team that helped make SHINE happen!
As we countdown to event day, we wanted to do a special shout-out to all the ladies who want to make an eternal difference in lives of our SHINE guests – we would love for you to join our SHINE team!
There’s still time for you to sign up and volunteer with SHINE 2008 – check out the volunteer page for more details and to register.
For those that have already signed up, I’m SO excited to serve with all of you! Don’t forget about the volunteer training sessions:
- Thursday, April 17, 7 pm (Midtown campus)
- Monday, April 28, 7 pm (Midtown campus)
You’ll receive your team assignments on the first training night and we’ll give you the full low-down on all the event details. During the second session, you’ll meet specifically with your team/zone leader and learn more about your team role.
Here are a couple volunteer updates:
- Pre-Event Prep team – if you’re available to help during the day, come join the pre-event team! We will be hosting two sessions for event prep (note that volunteers assisting with pre-event prep will also need to serve during the event).
- Friday, April 18, 1-5 pm
- Friday, April 25, 1-5 pm
- Men – we definitely need guys to volunteer as well! We need some extra help with set up/breakdown, parking, ushers, and registration.
Love you girls!
Jenny
p.s. – if you volunteered at last year’s SHINE event, would love to hear any praise reports or testimonies from your experience!

“Why should I volunteer for Shine,” do you ask? All I can do it tell you why I volunteer. I love being part of something I know has & will continue to change lives forever. I’ve been in the volunteer seat for 2 years now. The 1st year I did it so I’d get a free ticket. What I got in return was so much more! I got to hold a precious baby boy & know he was safe & his mom was being refreshed. The 2nd year I was asked to serve. I got to spend many fun days with my daughter painting all the beautiful props. I was also blessed to serve food & beverages to the hungry & thirsty.
So, when you ask, “Was it tiring?” I’ll say yes, but it was the tiring of an Olympic runner knowing they ran the race & won! You think your giving, but the blessings of seeing all those women’s & their children’s faces lasts forever.
I look forward to seeing YOU with your volunteer shirt! Together we can make this the BEST SHINE EVER!

Ladies,
It is incredible to be a volunteer at SHINE. I volunteered last year and was on the HOST team. Every time I went into the restroom to do a check, I met some lovely lady in there who was truly thankful for what our church was doing. Not only was I blessed by SHINE itself, but God met me in other ways as I sacrificed listening time is the sessions to serve on the HOST team. Being able to stand back behind the scenes and watch lives transformed was amazing! I fully encourage you to volunteer at least one year. It WILL change your life!
